Just another incredible valley with great roads
There is a website called bestbikingroads.com that I use to find good roads to ride. Although there were plenty of good roads between where I was last night and where I wanted to go today, there was not a lot of great roads, at least not in a fairly big gap in the middle. The route I chose had a bit of fast highway for that portion. Still, even that portion was pretty good.
The last bit was through the Valle del Miera, one of many valleys with incredible scenery and plenty of spaghetti roads.
I chose this general area as it was sort of in the direction of Portugal, and this area has plenty of good roads. I chose the town, Comillas, because it was a tourist town near these good roads. I wanted a place where I could get a normal hotel room, eat in restaurants and be around at least some people that speak English.
I arrived on Monday evening. Normally, places don't open for dinner until at least 6:30, often not until 7:30. I wandered around the town looking for a place to eat. It is off-season, and Monday. There were other English speaking people around. I was not the only one looking desperately for a place to eat. It turned out the ONLY place any of the shop owners knew of was a pizza / Italian restaurant very close to my hotel. Such is traveling off-season. My lasagna was not very good, but I attribute that to the off-season, I should have just gotten pizza. There was an American couple that had found their way to this place. We were their last customers. I assume the others I saw just starved to death. There were not even any pubs open that I saw. There was a high end grocery store that had cheese, wine and cured meats. One could have made a snack there.
Anyway, here are some pics.
